Twenty20 World 09 Australia Squad: Ricky Ponting (c), Michael Clarke (vc), Nathan Bracken, Brad Haddin (wk), Nathan Hauritz, Ben Hilfenhaus, James Hopes, David Hussey, Mike Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Peter Siddle, Andrew Symonds, David Warner, Shane Watson.

Australia got as far as the semifinals of the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup before losing to India. In 2009 they’ll be looking to prove that they are not a spent force in international cricket by adding the Twenty20 World Cup to their collection of ICC World Cups.

Twenty20 World 09 South Africa Squad: Graeme Smith (c), Johan Botha (vc), Yusuf Abdulla, Mark Boucher (wk), AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Justin Ontong, Robbie Peterson, Dale Steyn, Roelof van der Merwe

South Africa have one of the best records of any team in international Twenty20 matches. The team is also on the ascendancy and will be hot favourites to improve on their dismal performance in 2007 and win the title in 2009.

Twenty20 World 09 Pakistan Squad: YOunis Khan (c), Mohammad Aamer, Shahid Afridi, Saeed Ajmal, Shoaib Akhtar, Kamran Akmal (wk), Fawad Alam, Yasir Arafat, Salman Butt, Umar Gul, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shahzaib Hasan, Shoaib Malik, Ahmed Shehzad, Sohail Tanvir.

Its anyone’s guess whether 2009 will see Pakistan repeat their exceptional performance at the 2007 Twenty20 World Cup or simply tumble meekly out of the tournament as they did at the 2007 ICC World Cup.

Twenty20 World 09 India Squad: MS Dhoni (c, wk), Virender Sehwag (vc), Gautam Gambhir, Ravindra Jadeja, Zaheer Khan, Praveen Kumar, Pragyan Ojha, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Suresh Raina, Ishant Sharma, Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, RP Singh, Yuvraj Singh

With the strongest, wealthiest domestic Twenty20 league in the world, defending champions India must be one of the favourites to win their second title in 2009. They’ll be assisted by a draw which placed them in the weakest group in the tournament.

Twenty20 World 09 West Indies Squad: Chris Gayle (Captain), Lionel Baker, Sulieman Benn, David Bernard, Dwayne Bravo, Dinesh Ramdin (Wicket keeper), S.Chanderpaul, Fiedel Adwards, Andre Fletcher, Xavier Marshall, Kieron Polard, Darren Sammy, Ramnaresh Shrawan, Lendl Simmons, Jerome Taylor.

Twenty20 cricket perfectly suits the talents of the big-hitting islanders, as was proved in the Stanford Twenty20 million dollar showdown against England. With new stars coming through the ranks, expect the Windies to come out with guns blazing in 2009.

Twenty20 World 09 New Zealand Squad Daniel Vettori (c), Neil Broom, Ian Butler, Brendom Diamanti, James Franklin, Martin Guptill, Brendon McCullum (wk), Nathan McCullum, Peter McGlashan, Kyle Mills, Iain O’Brien, Jacob Oram, Jesse Ryder, Scott Styris, Ross Taylor.

New Zealand’s big hitters will be savouring the opportunity to secure their country a major international trophy in 2009. Look out for the likes of Brendan McCullum to blast the opposition out of the park at the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup.

Twenty20 World 09 Sri Lanka Squad: Kumar Sangakkara (c), Muttiah Muralitharan (vc), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Jayawardene, Nuwan Kulasekara, Farveez Maharoof, Lasith Malinga, Angelo Mathews, Ajantha Mendis, Jehan Mubarak, Indika de Saram (wk), Chamara Silva, Thilan Thushara, Isuru Udana

Sri Lankan cricket, with its reliance on spin, is still adjusting itself to the shortened version of the game, but with the ability of their batsmen to accelerate from the first over, should be able to make an impression on the tournament in 2009.

Twenty20 World 09 Bangladesh Squad: Mohammad Ashraful (c), Mithun Ali, Raqibul Hasan, Shakib Al Hasan, Rubel Hossain, Shahadat Hossain, Tamim Iqbal, Naeem Islam, Mohammad Mithun, Mashrafe Mortaza, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Shamsur Rahman, Syed Rasel, Abdur Razzak, Junaid Siddique, Mahmud Ullah

Bangladesh will only need to beat Ireland to reach the Super Eight stages of the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup, and should therefore fancy their chances of improving on their performance at the inaugural tournament in 2007.

Twenty20 World 09 Ireland Squad: William Porterfield (Captain), Andre Botha, Jeremy Bray, Peter Connell, Alex Cusack, Trent Johnston, Kyle McCallan, John Mooney, Kevin O’Brien, Niall O’Brien(w/k), Boyd Rankin, Paul Stirling, Regan West, Andrew White, Gary Wilson.

The Irish showed heart, passion and flair when they surprised the cricket world at the 2007 ICC World Cup. They’ll be looking to do the same in their Twenty20 World Cup debut, and a win over Bangladesh would see them through to the Super Eights.

Twenty20 World 09 The Netherlands Squad: Jeroen Smits (Captain/Wicketkeeper), Peter Borren, Mudassar Bukhari, Tom de Grooth, Maurits Jonkman, Alexei Kervezee, Dirk Nannes, Ruud Nijman, Darron Reekers, Edgar Schiferli, Pieter Seelaar, Daan van Bunge, Bas Zuiderent, Ryan tan Doeschate, Eric Szwarczynski.

The Netherlands could find themselves being used as cannon fodder by the powerful batting attacks of Pakistan and England at the 2008 Twenty20 World Cup. An unfavourable group placing is likely to see the Dutch depart in the first round.

Twenty20 World 09 Scotland Squad:

Scotland will be able to draw on their experience at the 2007 Twenty20 World Cup when they head to England in 2009. A tough group allocation alongside New Zealand and South Africa means they’ll need to play out of their skins to reach the second round.
